Staff volunteered at the NAGICO Insurances Free Health Screening at
the Walts Commercial Centre, The Valley, Virgin Gorda on July 6, 2013
July 10, 2013 - Seventy-one persons benefited from free tests for blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood typing during NAGICO Insurances free health screening on Virgin Gorda, Saturday 6th July, 2013.
Volunteers from the Virgin Gorda Diabetes Association, BVI Red Cross, Valley Sound Leo Club of Virgin Gorda and other health officials partnered with NAGICO to ensure the event’s success at the newly opened Century Insurance Agency office in the Walts Commercial Center, The Valley, Virgin Gorda.
Nutritionist, Ms. Caroline Hitchman, also volunteered her time to share knowledge about the types of food and how persons can improve their health by carefully planning their diet.
Assisting the attendees were senior management and staff led by Managing Director, Mr. Shan Mohamed.
“Based on the number of persons that benefited from the screening, NAGICO Insurances is satisfied that this was the right thing to do. It demonstrates the company’s commitment to the people of Virgin Gorda by participating in activities that benefits the wider community as a whole and it was evident from the turnout that the residents cared about their health status. Early detection means saving lives and reduced cost of health care. I thank all the volunteers and the residents of Virgin Gorda for making the first health screening a huge success and commit to such continued partnership on an annual basis,” Mr. Mohamed said.
President of the Virgin Gorda BVI Diabetes Association, Ms. Franka Pickering, thanked NAGICO Insurances for purchasing all the test materials for the event.
“People are asking for more of these screenings so if more businesses can support us to acquire the strips which are very expensive then we will be able to participate in more screenings. NAGICO has set a trend for other businesses and I hope others will follow. Kudos to NAGICO,” Ms. Pickering said.
Office Manager of the BVI Red Cross, Ms. Deniese Gardner, thanked NAGICO Insurances and pointed out that apart from the blood type test seven persons registered as blood donors.
