March 09, 2015 – St. Mary’s College: NAGICO awards top three places for its art competition, under the theme “My Culture, My heritage”.

The art competition was a regional one which saw entries from many schools.  However, it was St. Mary’s College, the island’s premier all boys’ secondary school, who emerged as winners, taking the top three places for their brilliant interpretations of the theme.  Malachi Herman was the first place winner with a piece called, Amazona Versicolor, depicting the island’s national bird, famous for its colourful plumage. Giftus Pierre and Bill Monrose came in second and third with pieces entitled, “St. Lucian Woman Song” and “Peace Dove.”

The enthusiastic St. Mary’s students waited eagerly in anticipation of the art prizes their fellow schoolmates were about to receive.  The First place winner was awarded an Ipad Air and $EC150.00 voucher for art supplies while the second and third place winners were awarded an HP 7” G2 Tab and $EC200.00 voucher for Art Supplies and $EC400.00 voucher for art supplies respectively. NAGICO representative, Mellisa Giddings addressed the students and solidified the company’s commitment to the development of young minds and their creativity.

Art Teacher, Mr. Ted Sandiford also expressed his satisfaction not only with the prizes received but with NAGICO’s creation of avenues for young artistes to hone their craft and be recognized for it.

The winning piece will be featured in NAGICO’s 2016 regional calendar.
