Experienced Underwriting Manager – Medical Division (Regional)

Job Summary:
We are a leading insurance company in search of an experienced Underwriting Manager – Medical Division. Join our team and help ensure the effective
and efficient management of the Underwriting process within the Medical Division in line with the company’s Underwriting Philosophy and Guidelines.

Key duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Underwriting
  • Ensures the effective underwriting of New Business within the Medical Division
  • Provides (underwriting) training, guidance and direction to the Medical Division staff as needed
  • Establishes and maintains underwriting guidelines appropriate to the Division
  • Ensures the effective underwriting of Renewal business for all business written in the Division
  • Monitors performance of the medical Portfolio by periodically reviewing the results in each territory and by type of Policy. Determines and approves corrective measures as necessary
  • Is responsible for the generation of analytics for the Medical Division to aid in the strategic planning for the Division
  • Creates periodic reports for management to monitor the Underwriting Performance of the Division. 
  1. Administration
  • Ensures that administrative processes function optimally
  • Maintains and improves service standards to all stakeholders
  • Continuously improves efficiency through the use of technology in work and service processes.
  1. Strategic Leadership to the Medical Division
  • Creates and communicates the strategic direction for your area of responsibility
  • Champions an inclusive environment throughout the Medical Division
  • Pro-actively keeps current with Market developments to ensure effective and timely change management when needed
  1. Assists as directed by CHO, in other activities within the Division. 
 

Knowledge & Experience

  • At least five years’ experience in a Management position in Life and Health Insurance Underwriting
  • Attainment of FLMI, FLHC, HIA or other relevant Life and Health insurance designation
  • Must work well under pressure
  • Ability to manage many projects simultaneously
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (orally and written)
  • Significant strength in prioritizing competing priorities
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to work harmoniously with others
  • Ability to plan and think strategically to successfully identify opportunities for the development of the medical line of business across the Group
  • Results oriented with willingness to take initiative and responsibility to adapt to dynamic and changing environment
  • Sound customer relation and customer service practices
  • Must be attentive and patient
  • Must be persuasive and diligent
  • Must be professional and diplomatic
  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Power point)
